Abstract:

In this presentation, we introduce photocatalysis as an advanced oxidation process for the removal of emerging contaminants, including antibiotics, pesticides, and other persistent organic compounds, from aquatic environments. These substances are often insufficiently degraded by conventional biological wastewater treatment, leading to potential environmental and health risks. Particular attention is paid to contaminant transformation pathways, the formation of degradation intermediates, and their ecotoxicity. The presentation also focuses on practical application strategies of photocatalysis in water treatment processes, as well as recent advances in photocatalytic materials and modification approaches aimed at improving efficiency and feasibility in real water treatment systems.
